The eagerly awaited Babolat Pure Drive 2012

The Babolat tennis racquet family is eagerly awaiting its newest member, the Babolat Pure Drive 2012. This new babolat racquet is slated to hit the market early this year with preorders already on the rise. This heavily awaited Babolat racquet has already made a few sneak appearances in professional practice sessions and welded in competition by pros. Receiving nothing but accolades, the anticipation continues to rise. Some rumors state the Babolat Pure Drive Racket 2012 will be in complete circulation by mid-march. Other sources indicate it will be much sooner. I myself have opted to wait patiently for its arrival, forgoing any eagerness to hastily purchase a lesser model tennis racket. Babolat has never let me down and I’m sure 2012 with be no exception.

Babolat Pure Drive rackets are known for their legendary control without sacrificing power. They are designed to give competitive players the edge they need when stepping up their game. This tennis racket is composed of Graphite Tungsten and sports an incredibly lightweight feel. Graphite Tungsten, also known as GT Technology, braids carbon with tungsten creating a truly durable and powerful hybrid frame. This type of frame is known to draw more power from any player from beginner to advanced. Combined with the new vibration elimination technology, this racket will increase feel and ball control immensely. The flashy new look is a welcome addition as well, and won’t take away from court side flair. It is as menacing in sight as it is in performance.

Babolat was founded in 1875 when the company’s creator began developing and producing strings for tennis racquets. The company gradually began adding new products and innovations to the market place for more than a century. In 1994 the first Babolat tennis racquet entered the market. And now in 2012 Babolat tennis rackets have become renowned worldwide, hardly even needing an introduction. Tennis combatants on every continent are choosing the sublime mix between power and control. Tennis pros including Li Na, Andy Roddick, and Kim Clijsters have taken home their fair share of trophies and championships with Babolat Pure Drive rackets. I can only hope to achieve the same aspirations for myself.

Tennis Practice without a Partner

Tennis is a fun sport that demands much practice to excel; although there is not necessarily a best way to practice tennis, there are specific tennis drills that will help a beginning tennis player become better at their game. When I was playing tennis, I used to perform tennis drills such as practicing my swing by hitting balls over the net into an empty opposing court where I would aim at empty tennis ball cans. Once I had hit all of my tennis balls into the opposing court, I would then practice my running footwork while going to retrieve the balls from the other side. Alongside practicing footwork, I would also practice bouncing balls off of my racket continually to help improve my hand-eye coordination and handling of the tennis racket when hitting the ball.

Performing a hitting and running exercise is a key in learning a best way to practice tennis. Other than learning the proper way to swing the tennis racket, choosing the right size racket is equally important. I chose tennis rackets that had a larger net as well as lightweight material to begin with. Using a tennis racket with a larger net allows the player a larger hit area on their racket as well as a flexible control to exert a lot of power into a swing. Once a player starts becoming more confident in their playing abilities, they may choose intermediate or advanced tennis rackets that offer varying benefits such as being extremely lightweight and powerful.

Alongside practicing footwork on the tennis court and using the proper size racket is also utilizing the benefits of a tennis ball pitching machine. A tennis ball machine gives a tennis player great exercise because the machine repeatedly fires tennis balls that forces someone to be on their toes and to be quick to react. I myself benefited from using a tennis ball pitching machine because it helped allow me to have a quicker reaction time to tennis balls coming onto my side of the court. Alongside helping me to have a quicker reaction, using a tennis ball machine also allowed me to be more agile on the court when hurrying to hit the tennis ball back over the net.

When trying to become better at tennis, like anything, practice makes perfect. This could never be a more true statement than when a tennis player finds themselves becoming more agile and gaining a quicker reaction time due to practicing their swing and footwork on the court. If a player keeps practicing, they will surely see improvements in their abilities on the tennis court.

My First Experience with a Tennis Ball Machine

I remember the first time was introduced to the game of tennis. My mother set up a date for me to take tennis lessons from a tennis instructor that was part of the recreation department in our town. I was only eight years old at the time. Mom took me shopping for my very own tennis racket and outfit. My tennis instructor was a younger woman. My first lesson was a group lesson where the instructor tried to teach six to ten year olds how to control the racket and ball. To do this she began the lesson by having us jump over our racket. Using both feet, we jumped from side to side. We spent an hour doing this exercise repeatedly. Later in the day, she showed us how to hold our racket and how to toss the ball up in the air. This was the conclusion of our first tennis lesson.

On the next weeks lesson the tennis instructor introduced us to the portable tennis ball machines. She gave us a brief history of the ball machine stating that Rene LaCoste first created it in 1920. The first ball machine was made to crank out balls. Lacoste felt that this could help him improve his game. The machine was successful in helping La Coste to improve the game with the help of someone cranking out the balls for him. It was not until 1970 that the first motorize ball machine came on the market. After I looked into the invention, I discovered the interesting fact that the first motorize ball machine actually used a vacuum motor in reverse. This made the pressure to shoot the balls out for Bob McClure the inventor. This improvement on a ball machine invention gave tennis practice the upper hand and gave future companies the ability to create the best tennis ball machines available today.

Today the best tennis ball machines work on batteries or motors that are stronger. I like the portable tennis ball machines because I can practice alone. The ball machine shoots the balls out at a generous speed so that I hit them back over the net. It has been many years since my first tennis lesson and first experience with a ball machine. I would like to say that the portable tennis ball machine has helped improve my performance against a partner. I believe if someone would come out with a machine that helped my swing that I may improve substantially in the game of tennis.

Olympics Tennis Update & Citi Open

In London, tennis is heating up. Serena Williams moves into the Quarterfinals! Serena has won two gold medals for double tennis with her sister, Venus. Speaking of Venus, she lost her singles match but at least she can cheer on her sister! And, Venus still has a chance to grab her fourth gold medal as she moves into the doubles quarterfinals with her sister Serena.

Roger Federer also advances in his bid for his first Olympic tennis gold. Yesterday, American Andy Roddick lost to Djokovic and Great Britain’s own Andy, Andy Murray, moved on to Round Three.

And one match breaks two Olympic tennis records. Tuesday, Canadian Milos Raonic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France played the longest tennis match in Olympic history. Tsonga emerged victorious but both players should be proud.
According to, “The match started just past noon local time and wrapped up nearly seven hours later. Play was delayed for almost three hours due to rain with players on serve early in the third set.
The official match time was three hours 57 minutes. The third set alone lasted an even three hours.
The 66 games played were the most ever in a three-set Olympic match and the 48-game third set also set a record. It wasn’t clear whether any time records were broken since match lengths weren’t recorded in early Olympic competition.”
Back in the USA, Mardy Fish advances in the Citi Open. Mardy Fish has had a hard year. He sat out three months because of an irregular heartbeat then turned up in Wimbledon advancing to the fourth round. Then last week, Fish hurt his ankle. He had to pass up the Olympics but you can still watch him in the Citi Open.

Olympic Tennis Wrap-up

For a tennis fan, nothing beats the Olympics.

American Andy Roddick won his first-round match over Slovakia’s Martin Klizan at Wimbledon. Roddick goes on to face Djokovic. Djokovic is the 2011 Wimbledon Champ.

Roddick didn’t play in Beijing in 2008, in the 2004 Olympics he lost in the third round.

The Williams sisters won their double match and both Serena and Venus won their first round single match. If Venus can win the gold she’ll be the new record holder with four gold medals in Olympic tennis. She’s won two gold medals playing doubles with her sister, Serena, and she won her single gold medal in Sydney in 2000. Thirty-two year old Venus was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease known to cause fatigue, watching her on the court, you’d never know it.

Roger Federer also won his first match.

The U.S. team is doing well, with John Isner and Varvara Lepchenko also advancing.

Host country Great Britain’s favorite tennis star, Andy Murray, beat Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in his first singles match.

The rain has caused scheduling difficulties, causing the biggest names of tennis to find most of them playing at the same time.

So far Kim Clijsters is the biggest name to win a second round victory for her home country of Belgium.

Tennis for Kids: The Right Equipment Makes a Big Difference When You’re Playing 10 and Under Tennis

I remember when I was very young, and I was very focused on 10 and under tennis. It was my only hobby and after-school sport after I got out of elementary school class. USTA junior tennis was also something I was involved in. I remember purchasing kids tennis racquets with my mom. There is something so fun about starting tennis for the first time. I saw a lot of kids that I knew from school which made it easy to start up a tennis match with them when I got to practice. I was lucky because there were also reliable instructors on hand to help make those match-ups that were so fun to play.

Starting tennis when you’re young is the best way to do it. It is a great time to get a handle on the basics and learn the ropes. The USTA has made it even easier by launching a complete 10 and Under Tennis Program. You can really get a feel for what it’s like to be a tennis player, the excitement and joy of playing a match, when you’re younger and learning how to do the basic moves. When you’re young the stress of playing right isn’t too overwhelming, and it’s easier to really enjoy the sport and get the hang of it. USTA junior tennis is where it gets a little tougher. Luckily, junior tennis racquets are a bit cheaper than regular adult racquets. You have to continually purchase kids tennis racquets throughout your life as you’re growing up and changing size. It’s important that you always play with the right size racquet so that you can avoid injury and play your best.
I remember way back when I was a child, and we went to the store to get my first junior tennis racquet and shoes. My mother had played tennis throughout her entire life and she was a very good player. In addition to my instructors, she taught me a lot. Plus, she knew the importance of me having the right equipment and she was right: the proper size racquet completely changed my game.

I had a lot more fun when I was young and just learning how to play versus when I was a bit older and had to play in professional practice. If you have a kid who is interested in playing tennis the best advice that I can give you is to start him or her early and to make sure your kid has the proper equipment for his or her ability and size.
